A digital polyphonic tale
On 18 & 19 May 2021, Perperúna in collaboration with the digital performance stage aejaa presented an original vocal performance unfolding across time zones—live from Berlin and Heraklion (Crete), streamed to audiences in London, Athens, and New York.In this multimedia story, we followed a female figure who flees a barren land and begins a transformative journey, wandering in search of a long-awaited spring—one that must come, one that will come.
Through vocal improvisation and Balkan folk polyphony, the voices of Perperúna became her memories, her body, and her senses. The narrative voice of Aliki Atsalaki wove her path into words, tracing her steps with poetic clarity.
The digital performance stage aejaa enabled real-time remote interaction, merging our voices across distance and turning polyphonic storytelling into an immersive, cross-border performance experience.
