Johanna Schlottke

Johanna grew up in Osnabrück and has called Berlin home since 2014. Once a trained educator, she spent six transformative years in Turkey from 2008 to 2014, residing in cities such as Izmir, Istanbul, and Çanakkale. It was during this time that her fascination with the rich tapestry of Turkish culture deepened, especially its diverse musical heritage, which continues to resonate immensely with her.

Through her multifaceted project work at the Çanakkale city administration, she uncovered a passion for cultural management, prompting her to pursue a degree in cultural work in Potsdam, leading her back to Germany. Since then she has been part of numerous cultural productions, such as WOMEX, Classical Next and Morgenland Festival Osnabrück.

Singing polyphonic songs in the circle of Perperúna shows her the way to melodies and rhythms with which she feels deeply connected with, songs close to her heart that give her strength and joy. Although she actually prefers to pull the strings backstage, it is her greatest joy to experience when listeners find the same joy in the songs. She believes that the rich tapestry of polyphonic singing stirs the soul of every listener, and that sharing this ancient art form is a vital calling.
