Learn more about the voices of Perperúna

Lorena

A singer from Israel/Palestine, operating as a cultural activist in the Berliner glocal music scene for the past 15 years.

Lorena started singing at the age of 5. Her vocal journey began in the choir, a place that opened her ear and heart to traditional and folklore, and fundamentally shaped her perception of music as an empowering communal act and therapeutic ritual.

Soon after she graduated highschool in jazz and contemporary music she moved to Berlin in 2005, eager to expand her cultural and intellectual horizons. During her B.A studies of social and cultural anthropology and art history she started curating her own events as member of Trickster collective, hosting local and touring musicians, while establishing contacts and promoting female and alternative voices within the artistic community as a freelance booker, project administrator and fundraiser.

Also on stage she assumed numerous roles and personas throughout the years, performing with several bands, experimenting different genres, writing songs and singing in multiple languages.

With Perperúna she enjoys reconnecting with her musical roots, with ancient harmonies, diving into her deepest register and exploring the lowest frequencies of her powerful voice, supporting the group from below with a vibrating, steady drone.
