Saraï O’gara

Saraï is a multidisciplinary performer, actress, and singer from Spain and the Basque Country. Her journey began with drama studies in Spain and led her to Poland, where she trained with Song of the Goat Theatre and the Grotowski Institute. There, she discovered the power of voice as a gateway to ancestral memory and developed a unique technique to free the natural voice and uncover the inner song.

Saraï’s work explores surreal scenarios rooted in dreams, blending storytelling, polyphonic singing, movement, and text. Her research has taken her to Georgia, Greece, Bulgaria, and Spain, where she studied traditional masquerades, vocal techniques, and the role of women in folk traditions. She holds an MA in Devised Theater from Arthaus/Rose Bruford, with pieces like Underwater and Echoes delving into themes of memory and the forgotten.

Currently performing with Familie Flöz in Hokuspokus, she combines her performance with original vocal compositions based on improvisations in gibberish language.

As a Perperúna member, Saraï treasures the sense of friendship and vocal community, where she channels her voice and creativity alongside others passionate about oral traditions and cultural exploration. She envisions their voices bringing multidisciplinary performances to life in site-specific spaces, amplifying female polyphonic sound across diverse settings.
